Information Center News Items D2 Web Design's New Website

D2 Web Design's New Website

This is the new look for our website. We redo our own website every couple of years to demonstrate some of the latest web technology. This time we have completely redone the site taking full advantage of the latest CSS (Cascading Style Sheet) technology. We are also using the latest version of Adobe Dreamweaver, CS4!

For the Information Center portion of the website, we are using a Content Management System know as Joomla.

Joomla is public domain software, so the only cost is the time involved to set it all up and customize it to our needs.  With Joomla, articles and news items can be posted directly to the website, using an administrator website.  That means that the website owner can make changes and add content without having to involve the website designer.

The transition back and forth between the regular website and the Joomla site is almost completely undetectable, because the pages in each are nearly identical.  This is a result of using the same template for both the website and the content management system.  Under normal circumstances, this would be very difficult, as the website template is very different from a templete designed for Joomla.

But a very cool new design tool called Artisteer helped us automate the building of both the website and Joomla templates. It also helped us get all the CSS coding done, including special CSS code to work with older web browsers.  Artisteer is a great tool - it helps create professional looking websites, using the latest technology.  It has millions of different looks for a website or Joomla site.   It also creates templates for ASP.net sites and WordPress blog sites.

We like the new, professional look of our website.  We like the freedom of the regular website, as well as the convenience of the Joomla content management system.  The really like the way we were able to seemlessly integrate the two different systems.
